Vermillion Villanelle

In fair Vermillion do we make our home
Here the sky is blue, the clay is red
And we live our lives 'twixt river and Dome

The vultures circle, the Vermcats roam
And many a Coyote is born and bred
In fair Vermillion do we make our home

Crowds scurry to Carey's in the gloam
On the bluff where Lewis & Clark once tread
And we live our lives 'twixt river and Dome

Do I hear Louie whispering β€œHey Pal!” through the loam?
Or is Archimedes Plutonium dropping thistle overhead?
In fair Vermillion do we make our home

In bronze, I spy Doc Farber, beloved gnome
And Al Neuharth -- well, his head
And we live our lives 'twixt river and Dome

A town as pretty as a poem
Where e'er I go, I'd be here instead
In fair Vermillion do we make our home
And we live our lives 'twixt river and Dome
